The Executive Committee of the Conference of Religious in Scotland (CRS) have appointed a new Chair for its Safeguarding Commission (CRSSC) which supports Religious in Scotland to meet their safeguarding responsibilities.   Marie Clare Lunny will take up her post as a volunteer on 6th March 2025.

Marie Clare has spent nearly all of her career as a solicitor working in local government before taking early retirement. She worked for just over seven and a half years with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (the Western Isles) and then for nearly twenty two years with South Lanarkshire Council.

Her work over the years was predominantly in civil litigation and advice, with a little contract work, covering most areas of local government law including Education and Social Work (both Child & Adult); and which also included devising and delivering training, attending and advising various committees and the Fostering & Adoption Panels.

Her role in South Lanarkshire Council was managerial as well as operational and her job there also involved working on external groups, principally the Education Law Group of SOLAR of which she was co-chair for several years.

Marie Clare said, "I am looking forward to becoming familiar with all aspects of the CRSSC's role and trying to support everyone as much as possible."

Sr Kathleen Curran, Chair of the CRS Executive, welcomed Marie Clare to the role and thanked Geraldine Bienkowski, the outgoing CRSSC Chair, for her work over recent years.
