The Future of Church Safeguarding Programme was set up to help Professor Alexis Jay CBE recommend a model for fully independent safeguarding within the Church of England.  Professor Jay has now published a report which recommends that the Church of England needs to take action urgently to restore trust and confidence in its safeguarding by victims, survivors, those wrongly accused and the general public.  She recommends that two independent charities are set up – one to deliver operational safeguarding within the Church and the other provide scrutiny of it. Her report also recommends the General Synod passes a Measure requiring the Church to refer all safeguarding matters to these independent bodies and to implement all decisions made by them.
